Nursing home resident left on toilet

She was found by another employee one and a half hours later.

A resident of a southern Minnesota nursing home spent an hour and a half on a toilet after the two nursing assistants who placed her there forgot about her and went home for the day, according to a report made public by the Office of Health Facility Complaints this week. The resident of Good Samaritan Society in Windom suffered from dementia and was unable to call for help or use a call light. She was found by chance and was still strapped into the mechanical lift used to transport her. She had dark red marks on her buttocks that eventually faded, the report said. The facility was found to be responsible for neglect of health care. Employees have since been told of policy stating certain residents must not be left alone, so no federal deficiencies or state orders were issued. Read the full report here.
