NPR goes (Lady) Gaga with video spoof

Nina Totenberg, Michele Norris and other NPR staffers can now be counted among the little monsters.

Apparently inspired by the viral hit by some 82nd Airborne soldiers in Afghanistan, NPR has jumped on the Lady Gaga "Telephone" video spoof bandwagon, the Current: Public Media blog reports.

NPR's version has racked up 32,000-plus hits compared with 3.7 million for the soldiers' iteration. Most of those NPR producers can't match the moves of the soldiers, but who knew Nina Totenberg could lip-synch? Korva Coleman really lets loose the grooves behind the mike. Michele Norris walks like an Egyptian, sort of. But the high point may be Robert Siegel's deadplan delivery: "Stop calling, stop calling, I don't wanna talk anymore..."

The Army decided Thursday that none of the soldiers who created the original spoof would face reprimand for their viral hit, AFP reported. No word if NPR's video, also released Thursday, had any effect on the decision.
