Nov. 11, 2006: Man, 18, shot to death while passenger in car

Tou Vue was in a car with his brother at the intersection of Plymouth and Sheridan Avenues N. Thursday afternoon when Vue was fatally shot once in the chest.

Vue, 18, of north Minneapolis was shot just before 5 p.m. and died about an hour later at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, authorities said. His family declined to comment Friday.

Minneapolis police spokesman Lt. Greg Reinhardt said the motive is unknown. There have been no arrests and police have no suspects.
It is unclear whether Vue was the intended target or why he and his brother were in the area, Reinhardt said.

Park police spotted the car that Vue was in and followed it as the driver erratically drove to North Memorial Medical Center, police said. Vue was a passenger. The driver told police about the shooting.

Neighbors said the intersection in the Willard-Hay neighborhood where Vue was shot is a well-known trouble spot where teenagers and young adults often loiter. Drug dealing and gang activity are a problem in the area, they said.

"Anytime someone's shot, it's awful," said Danielle DeGregory, who lives nearby. "But I'm not surprised there were shots there."

She said shots have been fired at the intersection as least twice in the past year. The intersection is so bad that many residents go out of their way to avoid driving through it, she said, adding that she doesn't let her kids walk in the area.

"I feel less safe" because of the intersection, she said. "It's sad and it's scary."

Anyone with information about the shooting can call police at 612-692-8477.
