The Symington family is justifiably renowned for its dessert wines, but deserves some acclaim for its "regular" stuff, as well. The Dow Vale do Bomfim Douro ($12) has wonderfully ripe cherry and wild berry flavors and a refreshing crispness rarely found in red wines. The moderate alcohol level (13 percent), spot-on acidity and smoky finish make this blend of red grapes suitable for before or during dinner -- with roast chicken, pork loin or even salmon -- perhaps with one of the Symingtons' Dow Ports for dessert.
