OSLO, Norway — The youth wing of Norway's Labor Party has gathered for its first summer camp since a gunman targeting the group massacred 69 people two years ago.
The left-leaning AUF youth group canceled the annual camp last year in the wake of the bloodshed on Utoya island in July 2011.
This year, hundreds of AUF members are gathering in a different location on the shores of the same lake.
Security has been increased, with police officers patrolling the camp, which officially opened Thursday and ends Sunday.
Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who hails from the Labor Party, praised the youth Friday for not letting the massacre cloud their ideals.
Right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the massacre and a bombing in Oslo that killed eight.
