Northwest Gets a Pounding

Following a week of stormy weather in the Southwest, a storm will instead takeaim at the Northwest today. Windswept rain will drench the coast from northernCalifornia to Washington, while snow blankets the mountains.The heaviest rain will target northwestern California and southwestern Oregonthrough tonight. Rainfall totals topping 2 inches in parts of this area couldlead to flooding problems. Meanwhile, winds along the coast will gust past 40mph at times. Several inches of snow can be expected to pile up in the Cascadesand northern Sierra through tonight as well.

The wet and wintry weather will continue on Monday, with rain sneakingsouthward through central California as the day progresses.
