A blizzard will bear down on northern New England, but that will not take placeuntil this weekend. Today, a less intense storm will still create traveltroubles across the mid-Atlantic and southern New England.Snow and ice will continue to keep roads treacherous from central Virginia tosouthern New Jersey this morning. Commuters in Washington, D.C. andPhiladelphia are urged to use caution, and allow extra time to reach yourdestination. The wintry mess will eventually mix with, then change over to rainby the afternoon.
Snow will also reach New York City today. A coating to an inch will create afew slick spots before a changeover to rain takes place.
A bit more substantial snow will fall from north-central Maryland to southernNew England. Within this zone, the snow will accumulate 1 to 3 inches. Whilethis is not a paralyzing amount of snow, travel will still be impacted.
Motorists should watch for slippery conditions.
The snow should not last long into the afternoon across Pennsylvania and NewJersey, but may linger into the early evening in eastern Massachusetts.
