A North St. Paul woman was charged Wednesday for allegedly shooting her daughter in a leg during an argument last weekend.
Tonya H. Raleigh, 35, was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the shooting, which happened after both had been drinking.
The daughter, 18, went to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with noncritical injuries.
According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the North St. Paul apartment that Raleigh shares with her daughter shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday on a report of a man screaming that his girlfriend was bleeding. On the way, medics learned that an 18-year-old woman there had been shot.
The woman later told police that her mother shot her in the leg after the two argued about her romantic relationship.
Her boyfriend, meanwhile, said he had tried to avoid the argument, but when he heard gunshots, he checked on his girlfriend and found her wounded, with Raleigh holding a semiautomatic handgun.
Raleigh was not at the apartment by the time a search warrant had been obtained.
Authorities later found a spent .40-caliber bullet casing and a few unfired bullets in her bedroom.
