North news briefs: Anoka High School stages 'Legally Blonde'

Anoka High School stages 'Legally Blonde'"Legally Blonde," the fall musical at Anoka High School, will open with 7:30 performances on Nov. 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 4.

Century College hosts fright walk ThursdayCentury College will host its annual student-run Fright Walk on Thursday with the theme, "What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?"

The Fright Walk features a haunted trail filled with creepy characters. It is scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday on the Wood Duck Trail behind the West Campus.

For children who might not want to encounter some of the characters, there are lots of other fun indoor activities such as face painting and crafts, plus free treats.

Century student Katie Ronsberg, a co-chair of the Planning Activities Committee event, said if families want to come before dark, the trail is a bit less spooky. Admission is free for children 10 and under, $1 for students and $2 for everyone else.

Historical Society meeting and dinnerThe White Bear Lake Area Historical Society's annual meeting and dinner is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the White Bear Lake Armory, 2228 4th St. in White Bear Lake. A social hour begins at 6 with a program at 7 entitled "Travel Back Through Time at Bald Eagle Lake" with guest speaker Paul Chapin.

Craft boutique set for Nov. 3The Moms Club will host its second annual Craft and Vendor Boutique from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 3 at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church, 2650 128th Av. NW. in Coon Rapids.

The boutique will feature local vendors and artists, as well as home-based businesses.

All proceeds will go to the group's Anoka County Adopt-a-Family service project to support families in need over the holidays. Last year's event raised more than $1,500.

Lions Club hosts community breakfastThe Lions are hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 a.m.-noon Sunday at the Coon Rapids VFW, 1919 Coon Rapids Blvd. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors 62 and older and children younger than 12. Children under 5 are free.

Tickets are available at the door or for purchase from any club member. Proceeds will go to support Lions projects in the community.

Karen Palmer, registered licensed dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will discuss foods and nutrients that have been shown to promote overall prostate health and cancer recovery.

'Beatlemania' concert will aid Cooper bandAn evening of "Beatlemania" is planned at the Robbinsdale Cooper High School auditorium from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

The school's Marching Hawks and a variety of guests will present the concert to raise money for the band's uniform fund.

The event also will feature the Shady Oak Groove Society, the WCCO Blues Band and Joey Molland, formerly of the British band Badfinger. Don Shelby, retired WCCO TV anchor, will be the host. In addition to Beatles songs, the evening will include jazz, blues and marching band music.

Marriage amendment discussion is tonightThe Church of the Epiphany in Plymouth is hosting "A Respectful Conversation on the Marriage Amendment" on Wednesday.

'Halloween at the Creek' for kids"Halloween at the Creek" is set from 5:30-8 p.m. next Wednesday at the Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Av. in Plymouth.

Carnival games, live entertainment, prizes and treats will be available. Costumes are encouraged, but not scary or gory costumes.

The event is geared toward families with kids through elementary age. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Each paying participant will receive a slice of pizza and a beverage.
