Minneapolis recorded its first fire-related death of the year when a woman died from injuries suffered in an apartment fire over the weekend.

Firefighters on Friday found the victim in the smoke-filled basement of the two-story building on the 2100 block of 44th Avenue N. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died the Sunday, said spokesman Bryan Tyner.

Her name has not been released.

Crews were called to the 12-unit building around 5:20 p.m. and had the fire out about an hour later.

Officials have not said what caused the fire, but it started and was confined to the bedroom in the victim's apartment, Tyner said.

Four other residents were displaced and were being helped by the Red Cross.
