A man fatally shot in north Minneapolis on Saturday was identified Sunday as Steven E. Meyer, 36, of Eden Prairie.

Meyer died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. His death is being investigated as a homicide. No one is in custody.

Callers to 911 told police of hearing gunshots and seeing a car crashed at 43rd and Girard Avenues N. Saturday afternoon. It was not clear whether Meyer was shot while driving or if he was shot outside the vehicle and was trying to get medical help, police said.

Meyer died after being taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

On Sunday morning, few signs remained of what happened in the 4300 block of Girard Avenue N., where the fatally wounded Meyer was found in his car. Police tape was attached to a tree at the site.

Neighbors in the Eden Prairie apartment complex where Meyer lived said they didn't know him well.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 612-692-8477.
