BROOKLYN PARK

Vikings, NFL Charities recognize 3 volunteers Three volunteers working with an emergency assistance program in Brooklyn Park have won awards from the Minnesota Vikings Children's Foundation

The Vikings and NFL Charities gave the awards and a cash donation to Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP), a nonprofit agency, to recognize volunteers who exemplify leadership and commitment to improving their communities.

The three were chosen by a panel of media and Vikings team representatives and community leaders. The panel chose Hannah Turpin as the Junior Community Quarterback winner, and Doris Ranczka and Ardis Fairchild as Community Quarterback adult finalists. The Vikings gave a grant in each person's name to CEAP. The agency received $500 on behalf of Ranczka, $500 on behalf of Fairchild and $1,000 on behalf of Turpin.

Turpin, 16, of Maple Grove, is one of CEAP's youngest volunteers and two years ago started sorting food, stocking shelves and filling food orders at CEAP's Brooklyn Park food shelf. Ranczka, of Brooklyn Center, has volunteered at CEAP for 15 years as a receptionist and later did data entry and paperwork as well as helping with events, including the annual holiday distribution.

Fairchild, of Brooklyn Center, has volunteered for 35 of CEAP's 39 years. She heads a quilting group of more than 40 women who sew quilts and children's clothing for the needy. The quilters produce more than 300 quilts and 350 articles of clothing each year.
