5 file for seat that was held by Sen. ScheidFive candidates have filed for an Oct. 18 special election that will fill the Minnesota Senate vacancy left by the death of Sen. Linda Scheid, DFL-Brooklyn Park.
Two Republicans, two DFLers and one Independence Party candidate filed for the District 46 seat, which represents Brooklyn Center and the southern part of Brooklyn Park. A special primary will be held Sept. 13 to narrow the Republican and DFL fields to one candidate each.
The GOP candidates are Cory Jensen and Ryan Sibinski. The DFLers are Chris Eaton and Timothy Davis Sr. The Independence Party candidate is Tom Reynolds, who will advance directly to the Oct. 18 vote.
Scheid, who was first elected to the Legislature in 1976, died in June after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer.
