North Mankato set to discuss e-cigarettes

A meeting Tuesday will consider two new regulations on electronic cigarettes

February 17, 2014 at 4:01PM

Following the lead of Mankato, North Mankato's City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday to consider regulating electronic cigarettes. According to the Mankato Free Press, the council will look to regulate the sale of e-cigarettes and its use indoors. The proposed ordinance says e-cigarettes produce a vapor of undetermined and harmful substances "which may appear similar to traditional tobacco products."

State Sen. Kathy Sheran, DFL-Mankato, is sponsoring statewide legislation to ban the use of e-cigarettes inside public places where smoking regular cigarettes is already banned. She told the Free Press: "I think it's a bad idea to repeat what we did with tobacco and allow the public to take the risk."

The North Mankato City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
