Former U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, a Republican, Thursday used his Facebook page to share his opinion on Democratic President Barack Obama and the BP leak. His opinion? Unsurprisingly, "damning."

Coleman wrote:

As a former public CEO(mayor of Paul Mayor) it is clear to me that the recent reports that Obama has never spoken with the CEO of BP since the oil spill began,is the most damning indication of lack of leadership. One of the 1st things any leader would do would be to tell his staff to get the guy responsible for cleaning up the mess on the phone. I'm stunned!

He followed up with:

it's not an issue of 'slighting the ceo of BP', rather it shows lack of leadership and controlling your assets. you need to know firsthand what BP is doing, as well as letting BP know your expectations of theiir performance. you normally do that ceo to ceo.

And:

i an not 'blaming obama'. i am,however, stunned that he never picked up the phone and called the guy responsible for cleaning up the mess and asked, "do you need any help"? Or told him what our expectations were-or even asked , "what are you going to do about this mess"? This is what you learn in leadership 101-and obama obviously never took the course.

Earlier this week, the president said during an interview with Today Show's Matt Lauer that he hadn't talked to CEO because "I'm not interested in words."

The transcript via Real Clear Politics:

Lauer: Have you talked directly to Tony Hayward, the CEO of BP?

Obama: I have not spoken to him directly – and here's the reason: because my experience is when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he's going to say all the right things to me. I'm not interested in words, I'm interested in action. And we are communicating to him every single day, exactly what we expect of him and what we expect of that administration.
