The driver of a big-rig cab died when he rear-ended a semitrailer truck on a southwestern Minnesota highway, authorities said.

Luke D. Beers, of Slayton, Minn., was killed in the crash shortly after noon Tuesday on Highway 30 in Slayton, according to the State Patrol.

Beers, who died one day before his 31st birthday, was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said. The semi he hit had stopped to make a left-hand turn before the collision, according to patrol.

The other driver, Gary G. Giugler, 69, of Wilmont, Minn., was uninjured.
