Firefighters from across the west metro worked Friday night in Orono to put out a fully engulfed suburban home, a blaze that has left the garage in ashes and spread to the roof.

The large brick house on the 100 block of Luce Line Ridge was unoccupied when the blaze erupted around 7 p.m. on Friday, Hennepin County dispatchers said. No injuries have been reported.

The fire appeared to have started in the garage, but the cause remains unclear, Orono police Sgt. Tony Wittke said.

Crews from fire departments in Long Lake, Maple Plaine, Minnetonka, Plymouth, Hamel and Eden Prairie helped get the fire under control within 90 minutes.

"Fire personnel knocked it down so well that they were able to save the main structure of the house," Wittke said.

Several streets were blocked to traffic as firefighters fought the blaze, but neighbors were not told to leave the area because the house that burned sat on several acres of land, reducing the threat of the fire spreading.

Investigators hope to determine the cause within a few days, police said.
