A minor roof fire Wednesday on a commercial building sent a large plume of smoke over northeast Minneapolis. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to a small area on the roof, according to Assistant Fire Chief Cherie Penn.

The incident at 2626 2nd St. NE began just after 10 a.m. when a vat of tar caught fire and ignited a 5-pound propane cylinder. The fire did not spread to the building's interior. Penn said it was a "superficial tar fire." Fire crews put out the fire and left the scene by 11 a.m.
