The powerful Minnesota teachers' union appears to be sitting out a pre-DFL convention endorsement.

Education Minnesota spokesman Lonnie Hartley says the union's political action committee board's next meeting is slated for May 8.

The DFL convention will be April 23-25 in Duluth.

That means, unless something changes, the union won't give one of the DFL candidates backing to take with them to party's endorsing convention. Traditionally, Education Minnesota has about 200 member-delegates at DFL conventions.

The union's PAC board has held two meetings in the past few months and didn't recommend a gubernatorial candidate at either one. The board's latest meeting was last weekend. The board's recommendation is the first of several steps for the union's endorsement.
