NEWARK, N.J. - Federal prosecutors say a New Jersey man made threatening phone calls to public officials including Louisiana's governor and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann.

Authorities have charged 27-year-old Ronnie McMillian of Hawthorne, N.J., with two counts of transmitting threats to injure another through interstate commerce.

Prosecutors allege McMillian regularly called the offices of public officials and used vulgar language to attack the person's position on gay rights.

Authorities say he continued to make calls after he was warned not to by U.S. Capitol Police in July.

Officials say he left a threatening voicemail for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal in September and called Bachmann's office several times and made threats on Dec. 17.

McMillian faces an initial court appearance on Thursday afternoon.
