"Beware the Ides of March," warned a soothsayer to Roman dictator Julius Caesar in William Shakespeare's play. As an aspiring weather soothsayer, I'm telling you to heed the warning if you're daydreaming about putting your boat into the water early.
Minnesota has one boat for every six residents, the highest percentage in the nation. And right now most of them are scheming how to get their boats in the water. "Hey, we're boating in March, in Minnesota! Crazy, huh?" Unless you have a very sturdy lift I would go slow. Huge swings in temperature spark high winds in March and April. Be careful out there.
