There are no awkward gift exchanges or passive/aggressive familial tensions during this December holiday. Friday is Repeal Day, and local lifestyle/promotions crew Kings Urbane hosts a launch party at the old Schmidt brewery coinciding with the 81st anniversary of the end of the United States' totally lame booze ban.

You bet your bob haircut it's Prohibition-themed, with burlesque from Musette the Mistress of Mischief, cigarette girl Billie Marquee and cocktails from Hola Arepa's Nate McLemore Rackowski. Kings Urbane co-founder and veteran Twin Cities DJ Trey "That Dude Trey" Taylor and B-Rock handle the music, and tickets include drinks and apps.

The brainchild of Taylor and Dustin Ruff, Kings Urbane aims to integrate disparate sects of the local artistic community. Dapper attire encouraged.

6 p.m.-midnight, Fri., 21-plus, $25, 900 W. 7th St., St. Paul, kingsurbane.com

Bar crawl with Surly & Doomtree

It's a match made in local hype-generating heaven. Surly Brewing Co. and Doomtree team up Sunday for well-timed bar crawls/mini promo tours throughout the Twin Cities.

With the hip-hop collective kicking off its final Blowout week of shows and the fermentation aces inching toward the opening of their anticipated new brewery, the two are unveiling a collaborative beer and doling out merch and tickets to an invite-only Doomtree show that night.

The separate West/East metro bar tours hit Muddy Waters and Billy's on Grand (2:30 p.m.), the Depot Tavern and St. Paul Pizza Lucé (4 p.m.) and the Red Stag Supper Club and Grumpy's Roseville (5:30 p.m.).

Cocktailian sampling soiree

Next week, 20 mostly Minnesota spirit producers will offer their wares for City Pages' inaugural sampling soiree dubbed Cocktailian.

Besides booze tasting, the party will feature hors d'oeuvres, music from DJ Jake Rudh and the Jeff Perry Trio, and cocktail demos by Jesse Held of Parlour and Coup d'etat. A portion of the proceeds benefit Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign.

7-10 p.m., Thu., 21-plus, $25-$55, 1308 4th St. SE., Mpls., varsitytheater.org
