Most local musicians are happy hosting a record release party in front of 200-300 fans at 7th Street Entry or the Turf Club. So you can imagine how excited Nicholas David is for the chance to tout his new EP in front of 15 million or so TV viewers tonight, when he makes a return appearance on NBC's "The Voice."
The St. Paul soul rocker also known locally as Nick "The Feelin'" Mrozinski is scheduled to perform on Tuesday's show (7 p.m.). This time, he won't have to sing Huey Lewis or any other vanilla cover, but rather he was invited back to sing his own new song, "Say Goodbye," which is also the title track of a four-song EP due out later today via iTunes.
Mrozinski recorded the new mini-album -- with the funny cover art to the right -- in Los Angeles using the house band from "The Voice," with whom he clearly bonded during his run last season. "Voice" bandleader Paul Mirkovitch produced the collection, which includes two other originals plus a new version of Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful" fashioned after his performance of it on the show.
Despite the involvement of Mirkovitch and the band, however, this EP is being released independently on Mrozinski's own record label and is not an official "Voice" production. So it's extra cool he's getting prime-time air time again to promote it.
After his performance tonight, Mrozinski will be back home in Minnesota in time to perform at yet another good-cause fundraiser: He'll join fellow sobriety-achieving acts Communist Daughter and GB Leighton at the first-ever HazelFest on Saturday at the renowned Hazelden treatment facility in Center City, Minn.
