WASHINGTON — The Newseum is displaying items from the protests and unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, as part of the Washington museum's exhibit on civil rights.
The museum about journalism and the First Amendment will display items including a press pass, a "Police the Police" poster and rubber pellets from a grenade used by police to disperse protesters. The display, which begins Friday, is an extension of the exhibit "Make Some Noise: Students and the Civil Rights Movement."
The Newseum's online managing editor traveled to Ferguson to collect items shortly before the Nov. 24 grand jury decision not to indict a police officer in the death of an unarmed black teenager. Protests erupted shortly after the decision.
The Newseum also acquired homemade T-shirts, posters and some African-American weekly newspapers covering the protests.
