The newest member of Como Park Zoo's expanding giraffe herd now has a name.

Jahari Jr. was born Sept. 20. Zoo officials had turned over naming rights to fans of the zoo's Facebook page.

With 36 percent of more than 900 votes, Jahari Jr., or JJ, beat out four other names: Cordell (28 percent), Serengeti (23 percent), Lance (9 percent) and Skinny (4 percent).

The name Jahari Jr. is a tribute to the baby's father, Jahari, who sired 25 offspring across the country before dying in January.

Zoo officials aren't yet sure whether young JJ is male or female, because mother Clover has been very protective. The baby was 5-foot-3 and weighed 153 pounds at birth.

Earlier this summer, another of the elder Jahari's children -- Howie, son of Daisy -- was born. The zoo also acquired a male giraffe from Jacksonville, Fla., named Skeeter, bringing the herd to five.
