New Year's lottery drawing yields 2 millionaires in Minnesota

January 4, 2016 at 2:08AM

Holders of two lottery tickets are this year's newest millionaires — minus taxes, of course.

The game is Minnesota Millionaire Raffle, and the $1 million winning numbers drawn on New Year's Day were on $10 tickets bought at the SuperAmerica at 1847 Johnson Av. NE. in Minneapolis and at the River Country Cooperative at 14610 E. 240th St. in Hastings, lottery officials announced.

Five more six-digit tickets hit for a not-too-shabby $100,000 payoff, and another five are worth $25,000. In all, more than 4,000 tickets won a minimum of $100 out of the 700,000 sold.

Three vehicles were also offered as prizes: a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup, a 2016 Ford Fusion hybrid and a 2016 Ford Escape.

For anyone with a winning ticket from the Jan. 1, 2015, drawing, the deadline to claim winnings is Monday. Holders of winning tickets from the latest drawing have until Jan. 3, 2017.

The Millionaire Raffle debuted in 2006, with once-a-year payouts totaling nearly $30 million.
