New Year`s Eve Outlook

A large East Coast storm will disrupt travel across the Northeast and parts ofthe Ohio Valley on New Year's Eve. There will likely be a mix of rain and snowalong the I-95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to Boston, Mass., while heaviersnow will fall farther inland.Cold winds will ignite lake-effect snow showers across the upper and centralGreat Lakes. The most brutal cold will be pent up over the Dakotas andMinnesota, where highs will fail to climb out of the single digits.

Much colder air will sweep all the way into the Southeast behind the East Coaststorm on gusty, northwesterly winds.

Another in a series of storms will bring more low-elevation rain and mountainsnow to the Northwest and northern California. Snow will streak eastward acrossMontana into parts of the Dakotas ahead of that storm. The Southwest isexpected to remain dry and tranquil under the influence of high pressure.
