MIAMI — Far out in the Pacific, Gil has weakened to a tropical depression while another system strengthened to a tropical storm.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Sunday that the depression is about 1,280 miles (2,060 kilometers) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. It has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 kph) and is moving west-southwest.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Henriette has formed in the Pacific. It is about 1,335 miles (2150 kilometers) west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph) and is moving west. Forecasters expect it to gradually strengthen over the next few days.
No watches or warnings are in effect for either storm.
