After surviving a 16-player playoff for one of the final 10 spots in the U.S. Women's Amateur match-play field, Kenzie Neisen, a native of New Prague, Minn., needed two extra holes to win her first match.

Neisen edged Maria Fassi of Mexico 1-up on the 20th hole Wednesday in the round of 64.

Neisen, who was down three holes after six, won Nos. 16 and 18 with pars to tie the match. On No. 19, Neisen watched Fassi miss a 7-foot putt to stay alive. Neisen's 3-foot putt for par on No. 20 won it.

Neisen, who will be a sophomore at Oklahoma State this fall, recently became the first player to win the Minnesota State Women's Amateur and Open in the same year.

Fassi, who has committed to Arkansas for 2016 and is the top-ranked female amateur in her country, had tied for fifth after two rounds of stroke play.

Next Neisen will play Mathilda Cappeliez of France, ranked 40th in the world among amateurs, on Thursday.
