A 53-year-old man from New London, Minn., was killed Monday afternoon in a broadside crash involving two vehicles in Scott County, the State Patrol said.

The victim, identified by the patrol as Calvin Robnik, was heading south on Hwy. 21 at 5:25 p.m. when he collided with a vehicle in the intersection of W. 220th Street just south of Jordan. He died at the scene.

Christopher Shimek, 51, of Prior Lake, was heading west on 220th Street at the time of the crash. He was taken to St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee with noncritical injuries, the patrol said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.

The pavement was dry at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.

It was the 388th fatality of the year, compared to 386 at this time last year, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety.
