New Hope approves plan, hires builder for new city hall, police station
Type: Municipal
Size: 66,000 square feet
Cost: $19.4 million
Developer: City of New Hope
Architect: Wold Architects
Details: The New Hope City Council on Monday approved a construction bid from Rogers-based Terra General Contractors for a $19.4 million building to house city offices and police. It received 19 offers from construction firms. With the bid awarded, construction is expected to begin after the contract is signed and permits are issued.
The 66,000-square-foot municipal facility will be built just to the south of the existing city hall in New Hope's Civic Center Park municipal campus. After studying several off-campus alternatives, a city task force last year settled on the location of what is now the Honsey Outdoor Pool, citing its favorable soil conditions. As part of the decision, a future replacement pool is to be constructed elsewhere in Civic Center Park.
The new building's design, from Wold Architects, emphasizes red brick to complement the Xylon Avenue streetscape and the surrounding structures. Its exterior facades feature brick and glass, with stone masonry veneers and metal accents adding visual details.
Terra General Contractors' recent portfolio of work includes other metro-area public sector construction projects such as a new fire station in Maplewood, a new family aquatic center in Bloomington and the remodeling of the Anoka County Courthouse.
