A new poll in the Minnesota governor's race echoes the results of a recent Star Tribune poll from last week: DFLers lead Republican Tom Emmer and DFLer Mark Dayton holds a lead in next week's primary race.

The numbers from KSTP/SurveyUSA have Dayton, Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Matt Entenza all ahead of Emmer, with Dayton holding a 12 14 percentage point lead. With Kelliher or Entenza in the race, the lead narrows -- Kelliher got support from 39 percent to Emmer's 33 and Entenza got 38 percent to Emmer's 33. That part of the poll had a 2.7 percent margin of error, according to the pollster. With Dayton in the race, the numbers for both IP's Tom Horner and the undecided voters drop, compared to the other Democrats in the race.

The lead off to the videos of poll results online may show one reason Emmer is lagging. The videos begin with an ad from Alliance for a Better Minnesota, which smacks Emmer on his past drunk driving charges and legislative proposals. ABM has run several anti-Emmer ads. Emmer has yet to run a television ad or spent serious cash to convince general election voters to side with him.

But the poll also show Emmer lagging among traditional GOP voters.

The KSTP poll results also show Dayton with a massive lead in Tuesday's primary results but even the KSTP folks seem to mistrust their results.

"Political polls are not necessarily predictors of what will happen in an election," says KSTP reporter Tom Hauser before sharing results.

In the primary poll, Dayton garnered 43 percent; Kelliher got 27 percent and Entenza got 22 percent.

Dayton leads his rivals by large margins among women, men and older voters, according to the KSTP report. It claims the margin of error is 4.5 percent, plus or minus.
