New England fall color bus tours

Reader Q&A: Can you help me find a bus tour into the heart of New England in autumn?

July 6, 2010 at 7:44PM

Q: An outfit called "Harry's Tours" (or a similar name) used to advertise in your Travel section. They ran bus tours all over. My wife and I were in New England in 1985, but in the late summer. We'd like to take a bus tour for the New England color season, but I cannot find this agency in the phone directories. Is anyone else offering bus tours to New England (with no flights to Boston) for the fall color season?

A: Heartland Tours has a 16-day tour of New England slated for September 6-21 (651-777-7170). They pick-up passengers in Maple Grove and Richfield, and there is still availability. With a little online sleuthing, I believe I found the company to which you refer: Harry's Motorcoach Tours in Wanamingo, Minn. Their website reports that, "After 19 years of doing tours throughout the world, we have decided it is time to semi-retire." At the end of this year, they are turning over their tour business to Glenn's Motorcoach Tours of Rochester. Both Harry's and Glenn's are offering New England tours this autumn; unfortunately, both are sold old. You can contact either company to check availability and to be put on a wait list (Harry's is at 1-800-644-0231; Glenns's, 1-800-795-8516).
