Currently riding at No. 1 on Billboard's Active Rock chart with the single "Absolute Zero," Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor's goreless band Stone Sour will cross into its neighboring state to the north to perform at Myth in Maplewood on Jan. 29 on a co-headlining tour with Papa Roach. Tickets are $35 and go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. via 866.468.3401 or www.TicketWeb.com. Las Vegas band Otherwise will open the show.

This year's winner of the England's Mercury Prize (and perhaps the Current's Most Overplayed Award), Alt-J will return to Minneapolis for a Varsity Theater gig on April 1. Maybe the date will convince singer Joe Newman to finally admit he has been fooling us with that Muppet-on-acid voice. Tickets ($20-$30) go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through www.Ticketfly.com.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals have already nearly sold out their Jan. 25 show at First Avenue, so they went ahead and added a second show a night later. Tickets for the latter night ($27.50) will be available Friday at noon through www.eTix.com. While she's been a rising star for a few years now, Potter's bump in local drawing power might have something to do with her impressive set opening for Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney in front of 40,000 fans at Target Center in July.
