Near Record Highs Again on Monday

A heat wave spread over much of the Plains and the South will lift temperaturesto near-record heights on Monday. Highs of 95 to 100 degrees will be widespreadwith some spots getting even hotter.Kansas City will have a good shot at breaking the standing record high of 94degrees set in 1963, as the high should reach 96 degrees.

A high of 95 degrees forecast for Denver would match the current record, whichwas last reached in 1996.

Many cities from Dallas, Oklahoma City and Wichita east to St. Louis, Memphisand Birmingham will top out near 100 degrees, and thus near the respectiverecord highs for the date.

Looking forward, the heat will linger through at least Wednesday, even longersouth of Kansas and Missouri. What is more, it will expand to cover the Midwestbefore taking a run at the Northeast during the middle to late parts of theweek.
