Back to work

"Good Morning America" recently topped "Today" in key demographics for the first time in four years. But the folks at NBC are hoping to scramble back to the top with the help of Hoda Kotb, returning to the anchor desk after being on maternity leave for the past five months. Expect lots of oohing and aahing over baby pictures.

To fans, with love

TCM salutes Sidney Poitier every Tuesday in September, starting with a slate of the legend's movies from the 1950s. "No Way Out," which marked the actor's first major film role, is a great way to start with Poitier going toe-to-toe with a menacing Richard Widmark, who clearly picked the wrong doctor to hold up at gunpoint.

American tune

"Mayans MC" was the most watched new cable series last season, thanks in no small part to being the spinoff of "Sons of Anarchy." But give at least a little credit to the theme song "Nunca," performed by Los Lobos founding member David Hidalgo. It doesn't pop up until about 15 minutes into the second-season premiere, and once it does, you'll swear it does just as much to elevate the series as "Woke Up This Morning" did for "The Sopranos."

NBC appointed Bush Hager as permanent co-host of the "Today" show's fourth hour with Kotb, replacing Kathie Lee Gifford in April. Kotb and Gifford were successful pioneers in expanding "Today," with an irreverent hour where glasses of wine were often kept close by. (Nathan Congleton/NBC via AP)
