Royal blood

"Finding Your Roots" has always preferred digging up the family history of Hollywood celebrities, but the season premiere goes one step further with host Henry Louis Gates Jr. sitting down with Anjelica Huston, Mia Farrow and Isabella Rossellini, all of whom have at least one famous parent. Which one of them had a grandfather who had his wife committed to a mental hospital? Tune in to find out.

Growing up

Animated gem "Big Mouth" features sympathetic middle-schoolers, but it may be TV's raunchiest show, which makes sense if you agree puberty is one of life's most outrageous challenges. The girls continue to get more screen time in Season 3 — especially Jenny Slate's sweet (and sometimes sour) Missy — but they're kind enough to allow Martin Short to interrupt with a sidesplitting song about sexuality that would never be allowed anywhere near "Schoolhouse Rock."

Cool runnings

It's terrific TCM is kicking off a nightlong tribute to Denzel Washington with a repeat of his AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards ceremony (7 & 10:15 p.m.), but what's even better is the mini festival includes two of his most charming and underrated performances. "Devil in a Blue Dress" (12:15 a.m.) and "The Mighty Quinn" (2:15 a.m.) both merited sequels.
