On the rise

"VH1 Big Music in 2015: You Oughta Know" celebrates its 10th anniversary with live appearances from up 'n' comers Hozier, Ella Henderson, George Ezra and Tori Kelly. Not familiar with those names? Just keep in mind that the event previously honored Adele and Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, artists who haven't done too bad for themselves. 8 p.m. VH1

Bad service

"2 Broke Girls," the car accident I can't stop gawking at, returns for a fifth season with Sophie and Oleg considering parenthood and the diner facing destruction from outside forces. Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs are such likable stars that it's a shame they spend each episode reciting canned jokes that didn't get past the censors at the Bazooka gum factory. 8:30 p.m. WCCO, Ch. 4

Jingles all the way

Alan Thicke may be best known these days as the father of pop star Robin Thicke, but his résumé includes songwriting credits for the theme songs to "Diff'rent Strokes" and "The Facts of Life." Thicke takes the good and the bad when he composes numbers for the cast of "Comedy Bang! Bang!" 10 p.m. IFC
