I got you, Babe

"Major League Legends," a new documentary series that's more interested in mythology than athletic prowess, continues with the story of Babe Ruth, the sport's first — and perhaps most heralded — superstar.

In the name of the father

"Spotlight" isn't the only example of the Oscars honoring strong journalism. "A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness," which won for best documentary short, personalizes the fate of a thousand Pakistani girls a year who are assaulted or killed by family members who feel shamed by their daughters' actions. In the case of 19-year-old Saba, the "crime" is getting married without her father's permission. Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy does a masterful job getting the victim and the accused to open up.

Walk on the dark side

"Damien," the lil' devil Gregory Peck unsuccessfully tried to knock off in "The Omen," is all grown up with some seriously conflicted ideas about religion in this rather somber drama that's a throwback to the satanic thrillers that were all the rage in the 1970s. There's not much for the cast to do except gasp in horror, with the exception of Barbara Hershey, who makes for a devious dark angel.
