Philip Seymour Hoffman most certainly had great acting roles ahead if he hadn't passed away from a drug overdose. But what would he have accomplished as a filmmaker? You'll most likely agree that he showed great promise with 2010's "Jack Goes Boating," the only movie he ever directed. Hoffman and Amy Ryan play a couple stumbling and mumbling into love. 7 p.m. ThisTV.

A touch of class

TCM once again turns over its August lineup to a Summer of Stars, dedicating each day of the month to a different film performer. This particular day belongs to one of cinema's sharp-dressed men, ­Adolphe Menjou, perhaps best known for his turn in 1937's "Stage Door." 10:15 p.m. TCM
