Trash collector

Boorish behavior rose to a high-decibel level in the mid-'80s, thanks to a chain-smoking conservative who, momentarily, forced the world to listen. "Évocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie," which was released in theaters three years ago, makes its broadcast debut on CNN. It's fitting because the man paved the way for the loudmouth pundits who now dominate the cable-news landscape. 8 p.m. CNN

Lip service

The memo not to mess with Cookie apparently didn't reach one of her "Empire" co-stars. Oscar nominee Terrence Howard takes on Taraji P. Henson in a two-part installment of "Lip Sync Battle." Since both also acted in "Hustle & Flow," you may think they'll be kind to each other. Don't bet on it. 9 p.m. Spike

Three amigos

"Saturday Night Live" alumni Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader, three of the busiest guys in Hollywood not named Kevin Hart, show off their cerebral wit in "Documentary Now!" a comedy series so highbrow it was able to recruit Helen Mirren as its host. Each episode parodies a different style of filmmaking, from the guerrilla-inspired tactics of the Vice franchise to the somber approach of Ken Burns' history lessons. 9 p.m. IFC
