Magic man

"Beverly Hills, 90210" grad Jason Priestley takes a break from his shift at the Peach Pit to lend his voice to "Wishenpoof!" The animated series encourages preschoolers to believe in the power of magic. Now streaming at amazon. com/prime.

Will the wolf survive?

Our northernmost state, which seems to be hosting more TV shows these days than California, is proud to welcome back "Edge of Alaska," a series in which the plucky residents of McCarthy take on the bitter cold, labor disputes and aggressive wolves. 8 p.m. Friday, Discovery

Young at heart

Vin Diesel, Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Black and other notables who haven't been 18 in ages are scheduled to present during the Teen Choice Awards 2015. Apparently, Don Rickles was previously engaged. Keeping the spirit young: performers 5 Seconds of Summer and Little Mix. 7 p.m. Sunday, KMSP, Ch. 9

Lost in Yonkers

Small talk is in short supply in "Show Me a Hero," the new series from writer David Simon, who previously set his sights on bureaucracy malfunction in "The Wire" and "Treme." This miniseries, set in mid-'80s Yonkers, N.Y., stars Oscar Isaac as the baby-faced mayor, a man determined not to let the issue of lower-income housing in white neighborhoods get in the way of his political ambitions. The Bruce Springsteen-friendly soundtrack and high-wattage cast, including Jim Belushi and Winona Ryder, provide sex appeal to what's essentially a paper chase. 7 p.m. Sunday, HBO
