Twins Camp, Day Two: Morning update

The Twins hit the fields again for workouts

February 18, 2014 at 3:53PM

Pitchers already have gotten their bullpen work in and are finishing up their running in the outfield at Hammond Stadium. It's a strange sight as they have to avoid construction equipment set up on the warning track in front of the new batters eye.

Checked in with Jason Bartlett this morning. He's having a blast already as he's back in a major league clubhouse in a year and a half. He did sprain his ankle the other day but said the swelling is going down and he shouldn't be slowed up much.

Former Twin Eddie Guardado reported to camp today as a special instructor. His unofficial job title is to talk to the younger players about what it takes to be a big leaguer. Anyone who knows Eddie understands that perform this task in his own special way with his own special vocabulary.

Anyone who plans to come to town this weekend to check out the Twins should also head over to City of Palms Park, Boston's former spring training home. The Minnesota Golden Gophers have three games scheduled there this weekend against Creighton. I did a double take when I saw this on the schedule, but I confirmed it.

The pitchers are headed off the field now, so it's time to hit the clubhouse. Joe Mauer is expected to meet with the media today, so we'll find out what it's like for him to be in camp without catcher's gear. Will check back this afternoon with updates.

Also, don't forget about my live chat at noon today. If you have questions, I might have answers.
