Rep. Tim Walz's campaign announced this morning that the National Republican Congressional Committee had spent about $100,000 on anti-Walz ads in southern Minnesota.

The First District is the NRCC's top target in Minnesota this year -- they elevated Walz's challenger, Republican state Rep. Randy Demmer, to their "Young Guns" list last month.

Walz spokeswoman Sara Severs said their ad buy was made in the Mankato and Rochester markets. They will begin running Friday, according to the Walz campaign.

Demmer has yet to put an ad on the air, though it is expected that he will soon. Walz has run two ads.

Though $100,000 isn't much in the Twin Cities media market, the money will go a lot farther on southern Minnesota stations. Walz has bought time on KARE, KSTP and Comcast, as well as the southern markets.

Tom Erickson, a spokesman for the NRCC, said he could not confirm the buys "until they're public." confirmed the ad buy, adding, "Southern Minnesotans deserve to know the truth about Tim Walz's record of rubber-stamping the failed Obama agenda that helped drive our economy off a cliff."
