The Twins trailed New York 2-1 in the sixth inning when Eduardo Escobar lined a triple to the right-field corner. Brian Dozier scored to tie the game and Trevor Plouffe, after hesitating briefly at third base, also tried to score.
At first, he was called out by home plate umpire Paul Emmel.
Twins manager Paul Molitor challenged the call, which was overturned after the replay was reviewed. The Twins took a 3-2 lead, grew it to 5-2 during the inning and went on to beat the Yankees 7-4.
