Lois Riess, the Minnesota woman wanted in Florida for allegedly killing a woman and stealing her identity, is on her way back there to face murder charges.
Riess, 56, was released from the Texas jail where she had been held since her arrest, and on Thursday was handed over to Florida authorities, said Victoria Cisneros, a spokeswoman for the Cameron County District Attorney's Office.
Riess, of Blooming Prairie, signed a waiver of extradition. A judge in Brownsville, Texas, gave authorities in Florida and Minnesota 10 days to pick her up and take her back to their respective states to face trial.
This week, Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose said Riess would first go to Florida to be tried in the murder of Pamela Hutchinson, a woman she befriended before she allegedly shot her and stole her car, cash, credit card and identity. When Florida authorities are done with Riess, she will be returned to Minnesota to face larceny and expected murder charges in connection with the death of her husband, David Riess, Rose said.
David Riess was found dead in the couple's home on March 23. Second-degree murder charges are expected to be filed in Minnesota when the Dodge County Sheriff's Office gets forensic results back from the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
