Charges: Man says 'God made me do it' after fatal Minneapolis shooting

July 7, 2016 at 2:13AM

Murder charges have been filed against a 44-year-old man who allegedly fatally shot his longtime friend on July 4 because "God made me do it," police said.

Anthony Collins allegedly shot Christopher Porter once in the torso, according to authorities. Officers found the man in the front yard of a house in the 1400 block of Morgan Avenue N. in Minneapolis, police said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Collins was being held Tuesday in Hennepin County jail in lieu of $1 million bail. He was expected to appear in district court on Wednesday.

The suspected murder weapon was found in the grass near where Collins was arrested.

Porter's death capped a bloody week in Minneapolis that saw four people shot and killed. On Tuesday, authorities charged a 26-year-old man in the June 30 slaying of Mario McGee outside a south Minneapolis apartment building.
