There's one song called "MinneapMurderRap/Joe Mauer" that namechecks No. 7 and Brett Favre and trashes "crybaby" emo rap. Another track is named "Sarah Jane Olson" after the Twin Cities' most famous fugitive mom. And one of the best cuts is a bleak, gritty ode to Minnesota winters with guest rappers Shiaones and Real Spit Ric called "Happy Holidays," which would never be mistaken for a Bing Crosby singalong.

Add all that up, and we must be getting another colorful, quirky, mind-boggling but head-banging mix-tape from Minneapolis rapper Muja Messiah. Titled "M-16s" -- and featuring Muja on the cover with machine guns and (16-year-old?) girls – the new collection officially drops next Tuesday. However, Muja is throwing a release party for it Thursday night at 7th Street Entry with I Self Devine and DJ Turtleneck also on the bill (9 p.m., $6, 18 & older). The mix-tape includes other guest spots by P.O.S., Maria Isa, M.anifest and Dodi Phy, production by Benzilla, Che Guevara and Big Head, and a diverse array of samples ranging from Dr. Dre and Kanye to MGMT and Monsters of Folk. What the folk?!
