A Minneapolis man has pleaded guilty to stabbing his roommate following an argument in Minneapolis' first homicide of 2013.
Mauricio Antonio Orochera, 42, entered the plea to unintentional second-degree murder in the Jan. 6 death of 35-year-old Ever Gonzalez-Canales, according to the Hennepin County attorney's office. In exchange for his plea, Orochera is expected to receive 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 7.
According to charges:
Orochera, Gonzalez-Canales and other men lived together in a house in the 2900 block of Russell Avenue N. They were celebrating the homeowner's birthday when the two began to argue. The other men in the house separated them, and Gonzalez-Canales went to his room in the back.
A few minutes later, Orochera went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and waited for Gonzalez-Canales. When he emerged from the bedroom, Orochera attacked him, pushing him into a back room and stabbing him.
