A motorist disregarded a stop sign at an intersection north of the Twin Cities and was fatally struck by a pickup truck Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The highway roughly 8 miles north of St. Francis was closed for a few hours.
The wreck occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at Hwy. 47 and County Road 5 about 8 miles north of St. Francis, according to the State Patrol.
Abdisalan Mohamed Ahmed, 29, of Minneapolis, was heading east on County Road 5 and failed to yield the right of way before being hit by the pickup, the patrol said. Ahmed died at the scene.
The pickup's driver, 29-year-old Cindy H. Anderson, of nearby Cambridge, suffered noncritical injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, according to the patrol.
The highway was closed while a medical helicopter landed on the highway, according to the Isanti County Sheriff's Office. The highway reopened about 11:50 a.m., once the on-scene investigation was complete and wreckage was moved.

The pilot was the only person inside the plane, and was not injured in the emergency landing, according to the State Patrol.
